Colleen O’Hagan graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Electrical Engineering and of course its most logical counterpart, Irish Language and Literature. From there she made her way to the University of Virginia to pursue an MS in Computer Science, focusing on Computer Graphics and Vision.
Upon graduation, she headed to a burgeoning, young animation studio in the Bay Area, ImageMovers Digital, and contributed to the films A Christmas Carol and Mars Needs Moms.
She continued her filmmaking career at DreamWorks Animation. Starting out supporting Character Effects on the films Puss In Boots and Turbo she created tools to improve artistic interactions with fur, hair, feathers, and cloth, even automating a system for digitally smashing hair down under hats. Following this she moved to the Lighting department where she had to quickly become an expert on new technologies at the studio in order to facilitate their adoption for How To Train Your Dragon 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3. Most recently, she explored and developed new technology to bring the familiar world of How To Train Your Dragon 3 into an even bigger and grander space for its third installment.
This Spring Colleen joined the RYOT Labs team as the Head of Engineering embracing the array of emerging technologies in extended reality that can be harnessed to continue telling stories in innovative and engaging ways.
