Our events are possible because of our amazing volunteers! Interested in helping out at a tour stop? Check out what we’re looking for!

What happens at a tour stop?

Tour stops are where it all happens! The payout from our internet hustling manifests itself in what Megan Smith, 3rd and former CTO of the United States, refers to as “a career fair meets revival!” The evening will consist of a career fair, speed mentoring sessions connecting mid-level/senior level talent with up & coming techies, lightning talks, coding bootcamp showcase and of course, special guests.

What do volunteers do?

Our volunteers help us with so many parts of the night. Volunteer tasks may include:

  • checking in attendees at the front
  • social media during the event
  • event setup (tables, chairs, banners, etc.)
  • managing lines
  • directing sponsor companies to their tables
  • hanging posters + putting out Tech Jobs Tour swag
  • routing speakers to the stage/front of the room at speaker call times
  • routing VIPs to private dinners or receptions
  • keeping surfaces tidy and neat (pick up stickers, clean up papers, etc.)
  • event breakdown at the end of the night

Can I decide what task I want for the night?

Yes and no. If you have a preference, let us know. Events move fast and sometimes we just need help where we need help.

Do volunteers stay for the entire event?

No! Well, you absolutely can if you want, but we split the volunteers into shifts. As most of our events are from 5-9PM, we ask for volunteers at the following (or similar) times:
  • 2-5:30pm for event setup + managing lines, + on the floor support
  • 4-7:30pm for checking in attendees + social + on the floor support
  • 6-9:30pm for on the floor support + social + event breakdown

What do I wear to volunteer?

We’ll have Tech Jobs Tour shirts for you on site. You can wear pants, skirts, whatever you like for bottoms, and sneakers/comfy shoes make the most sense!
If you’re doing social media for the night, we’ll refrain from giving you a tour shirt until end of the night so you’re not approached on the floor and distracted.

How Do I Prep for the Event?

  1. Register for the event. Find your city and familiarize yourself with the schedule.
  2. Follow us on Twitter + Instagram @TechJobsTour (and RT about the event)
  3. Like our Facebook Page @TechJobsTour 
  4. RSVP for the event on FB and share with your friends
  5. Upload your resume if you’re looking for job
  6. Don’t be shy, say hey @techjobstour and let us know you’re coming! #AMERICAISHIRING
  7. That’s it! You rock.

 

I signed up as a volunteer. What happens next?

Angie, our volunteer coordinator, will reach out via email and schedule a volunteer shift for you. Additional information will be shared at that time.
